The designs are transferred to a natural fabric: a lightweight 70/30 blend of bamboo and cotton. These beautiful scarves and sarongs are designed from tea! The fabric is a luxuriously soft blend of bamboo and cotton that is lightweight, and perfect for all seasons. Teascarf comes in its own silk drawstring pouch.

Local artist Reed Slater steeps tea and carefully places the teabags on watercolor paper to make intricate designs. After photographing the vibrant patterns, he prints them onto fabric, which he then fashions into art scarves.

“I love the idea that there’s beauty everywhere — even in unexpected places,” he said, “And that people wear my art.” He uses high quality fabrics made of a blend of bamboo and cotton to make his scarves. “Bamboo is quick growing and renewable,” he said, “and that’s good for the planet.” The fabric is printed, sewn, and fringed in Manhattan.

Slater studied industrial design at Pratt Institute’s School of Art and Design in Clinton Hill. He formed his company Teascarf Brooklyn in 2012, and is currently running a Kickstarter campaign throughout the month of May to produce a limited edition of six of his designs. Follow his project on Facebook: facebook.com/Teascarf or Teascarf.com.
