The idea behind the album was ‘collaboration’. I wanted to expand my musical horizons by inviting some of the most talented, contemporary artists out there, who are also good friends, to collaborate on new music and help create this Lifelike album.
I’m talking about brilliant artists like A-Trak, Oliver, Chromeo, Electric Youth, Yota, and Audio District.
As many of you will know, I have been working on this album idea for some time now, and after working in the past with both smaller independent labels and big major labels, I decided that I would do something different and speak directly to the people who love and support the music.
Sometimes when you work with a smaller label, they are overworked and don’t have the influence or financial muscle to really push a release in the right way. Or, when you work with a bigger label, you can lose control of the creative process, with your release disappearing into a marketing machine never to be seen again.
I wanted to make an album that would directly reach the people who love my music, involving them in the process of bringing this project to life. I wanted to keep control of the sound, the image and the promotion so I could be sure it was the best it could be.
A friend suggested that I look at Kickstarter and immediately I thought ‘I have found the solution’. Here I can invite fans from all over the world to get involved in the process and continue with the theme of ‘collaboration’. Here we can build a community that can support the creative process, from putting the finishing touches to the music, to creating the first video, to promoting the album to the wider world.
Here I can create the album exactly as it is supposed to be and together we can make it a successful release. The album will be called ‘Electronic Dreams’.
You can turn it up and listen to the music, knowing that you helped bring these electronic dreams to life.
I hope you’ll join me on this exciting, musical adventure and we will talk soon!
