Captain Calabar is a satirical African comic book about a reluctant anti-hero aimed at bringing humor and reshaping the scope of African pop culture brought to you by Akbar Comics. It is the first title in a budding Akbar Comicverse that looks to revolutionize the African comic industry and showcase the beauty of Africa to the world one issue at a time.

The comic was created in the thick of the creators’ brokeness. They sat in a circle and reasoned how to end this terrible poverty. They also felt Africa doesn’t have enough heroes or a universe of its own for children to grow up reading. But that’s by the side…

The first issue of Captain Calabar is already COMPLETE! Comedy, action, art, colors, letters and mild perversion are already on the page and ready to go! We however need to fund the production costs associated with making issues #2 onwards so we can begin the revolution! The book is 100% creator-owned so there’s no publisher’s financing. Our creatives are working at zero-profit just to see the dream actualized! If you support creator-owned comics, and want to see Captain Calabar come to life, you will be richly rewarded.

The Campaign to source for funds began on the 1st of May, 2017 and would run until the 1st of June 2017. The funds acquired from the campaign would be used to cover production fees, publishing, printing, shipping and so on. All leftover money will be used to pay for subsequent issue costs, variant covers, etc. In summary, all money will be reinvested back into the series. Our goal this campaign is to give our readers a high-quality sustained product.
There are also attractive rewards for prospective backers of the project like free copies of issue 1, free merchandise, free posters of the characters and so on.

Our goal at Akbar Comics is to create a lasting African comic book universe made by Africans and to redefine the art form whilst opening doors for fellow African creatives. You, the people, can make this happen by visiting the campaign link and funding us.
