Carol Stream, IL — Why start a pest control business? Imagine this scenario: You and your spouse are working jobs where you’re barely able to make ends meet. You’re both underpaid and over worked. Sure you’re surviving, but with the amount of money you make you’re not able to save anything after paying your bills. Sometimes you have to pick and choose which bills to pay and what your family will have to go without. Now if this isn’t bad enough, imagine that you and your spouse both lose your jobs. Now you have even less than what you had in the beginning. Bills are piling up higher and higher and debts are increasing. What would you do?
Like many Americans, my husband and I had it hard for a very long time. Until one day when he started work in the pest control industry. He absolutely loved doing pest control. But, although he really liked the job, he was very dissatisfied with the way his employer conducted business and treated the employees. He felt that the company he was working for used ineffective products on their customers homes. This left the customers frustrated because they had one year service agreements with this company and they got stuck paying for service that was ineffective. So why not just go and work for another pest control company? My husband had a desire to provide customers with world class service that was second to none. That’s how we ended up choosing our business name: World Class Pest Management. To remind us of the kind of service that every customer deserves. We took his knowledge of the pest control industry and my knowledge of business and project management, combined them together and decided to open the doors to World Class Pest Management. Below I have compiled five specific reasons behind our motivation to open our Pest Control Business.
1. We wanted to be a blessing to others. My husband is a Minister and we are both committed to God and our local Church. It was important to us to be able to help those in need. I often hear people say that they only want enough to provide for themselves, but if you only have enough for yourself you won’t have the means to bless others. Although my husband was making a good income as a pest control technician, we still had debts from years prior. This prohibited us from being able to bless others the way we wanted.
2. We wanted to get out of debt the right way. We knew that bankruptcy was an option but my husband said that we created those debts and we should be the ones to pay them off.
3. We wanted to be in control of our own destiny. Both of us had previously worked for companies with whom we thought we’d have a future only to end up disappointed. I realized that no matter how good of a worker I was, I could be let go at any time.
4. We wanted to be able to provide for our family. It was important to us to be able to set something aside for a rainy day. We are often told to do this, but unfortunately this is not always an option. Not only is it nearly impossible for people with minimum wage jobs, but it can be extremely difficult for middle class Americans as well.
5. We wanted to prove that the American dream is possible for anyone. I’ve heard before that anyone can get ahead in America. It’s the land of opportunity where dreams become reality. But many people find it hard to believe that it’s possible. Maybe you believe things can change for someone else, but do you believe they can change for you? We wanted to prove that in spite of your background, ethnicity or financial status and no matter what lot you’re given in life, you can still take those sour lemons and make lemonade.
