Carol Stream, IL– Imagine this scenario:  You and your spouse are working jobs where you’re barely able to make ends meet. You’re both underpaid and over worked. Sure you’re surviving, but with the amount of money you make you’re not able to save anything after paying your bills. Sometimes you have to pick and choose which bills to pay and what your family will have to go without. Now if this isn’t bad enough, imagine that you and your spouse both lose your jobs. Now you have even less than what you had in the beginning. Bills are piling up higher and higher and debts are increasing. What would you do? For many people starting a business these are not the conditions in which they want to find themselves. So what made Rev. Rodney and Charlene Anderson start their business in spite of these things?  Check out their five reasons below:

1. We wanted to be a blessing to others. My husband is a Minister and we are both committed to God and our local Church. It was important to us to be able to help those in need. I often hear people say that they only want enough to provide for themselves, but if you only have enough for yourself you wont’ have the means to bless others.

2. We wanted to get out of debt the right way. We knew that bankruptcy was an option but my husband said that we created those debts and we should be the ones to pay them off.

3. We wanted to be in control of our own destiny. Both of us had worked for companies with whom we thought we’d have a future only to end up disappointed. I realized that no matter how good of a worker I was, I could be let go at any time.

4. We wanted to be able to provide for our family. It was important to us to be able to set something aside for a rainy day. We are often told to do this, but unfortunately this is not always an option for people with minimum wage jobs living pay check to pay check.

5. We wanted to prove that the American dream is possible for anyone. I’ve heard  before that anyone can get ahead in America.  It’s the land of opportunity where dreams become reality.  But for many people who are struggling to make it day to day it’s hard to believe that it’s possible. Maybe it can happen for someone else but can it happen for you?  We wanted to prove that no matter what lot you’re given, you can still take life’s lemons and make lemonade.
