Los Angeles, CA— Today, a group of young adults have been working together to create a large “Gatsby Style” 1920s-themed New Years Party. They are currently fundraising to cover the costs on GoFundMe, a crowdfunding site. So far, the group has raised just over $1,500 and already gained one sponsorship from Greg’s Portable Welding, a local welding company in Playa Del Rey.
Samantha Newman, the event coordinator, has stated that there will be many things to do at the party, including a Casino Night which will benefit Make-A-Wish.
“One of the things we’re most excited about is the fundraiser. Being a Make-A-Wish recipient, this cause is important to me, and I want to do what I can to give back to an organization that gave so much to me as a kid. Everyone will get a base amount of chips so they can play, and once they run out they can buy more. That’s where we’ll be raising the money for them. Our guests will be able to trade the chips in for raffle tickets. They can enter the tickets in for awesome prizes. ” Newman said, she added that in terms of raffle prizes, they are looking for local businesses who may want to donate good or services for the cause.
There will also be a pool, Jacuzzi, Sauna, and a “speakeasy room” organized by local artist and activist, Jayvien McNeill. According to McNeill, the room will have a variety of local poets and artists to showcase their work.
Additionally, live music coupled with various entertainment will be going on throughout the night. Magicians, fire-dancers, and more are expected to be there. In the early evening a dance instructor will be instructing patrons on how to swing, Charleston, and Lindy Hop.
Food will be prepared by local chef and baker, Andria Antoniades, who currently works as a baker in Long Beach. She is excited to craft a menu based on 1920s treats, and modern hors d’oeuvres.
“We want to pay homage to the 1920s as much as possible, but at the same time celebrate the 100 years it took to get us here. We encourage everyone to dress up. There will be a costume competition for best mix of modern and 20s style. That is what will truly be embraced at this event.” Newman added.
About the event: The party will be hosted in a mansion-style venue in Woodland Hills, CA. The event begins at 4:30PM, and will last until 1:00 AM on December 31st, 2019. More information can be found at roarin2020.com or sent to 2020nye@gmail.com.
