Hello,

My name is Joshua Covey, and I am a freelance comic book illustrator looking to promote a new creator owned graphic novel, which I have launched via Kickstarter.com to help raise funding to complete and print. We are currently 55% funded with over 180 supporters from around the world and 16 days remaining to reach our goal. A little bit about myself and the project:

Much like every other artist out there, I have aspired to draw comics since I was a kid and though the dream became a reality only 2 years ago, that passion and drive to better my own work still remains to this day. I currently reside in the northwest with my beautiful and lovely wife of 8 years and my two amazing children. Currently I work full time doing freelance work for comics, and over those 2 years, I have done work for Dark Horse comics, BOOM! Studios and numerous independent creators.

The story of BAAKO is an all ages book that will cater to audiences young and old.
Ever since my children were born, I have always felt a sense of obligation to do a story that had them in mind, something that they too could pick up and read and enjoy. BAAKO is something I have been working on for quite some time now. From day one, it has been my passion project, and is inspired heavily on the fact that I have a daughter of my own. To tell a story with a strong female lead without the “physical” attributes that are so commonly attributed to such a role is of great importance to me.

In short: BAAKO is the story of a young girl coming of age in a world full of unimaginable terrors. She must find the courage to set out on a journey full of peril, loss, and betrayal and learn to overcome it all.

This is a journey of uncertainty: of knowing what has to be done, getting out of your comfort zone, building up the courage to take that leap of faith, and hoping you land on your feet!

BAAKO is a fantasy tale at heart and a culmination of everything I’ve ever wanted to do in my own book. The story is a mix of multiple genres and a place for my imagination to run wild and free!
